Staak! de Show (2023)
The April-May strikes of 1943 have gone down in history as "the forgotten strike". The strike itself was the largest strike against Nazi Germany ever. The strike began at Stork, in Hengelo, where the telephone operator called her entire network to tell about the strike. Very rapidly, the strike spread throughout the Netherlands. With as a result that more than 200,000 Dutch people went on strike. And yet few people knew about this strike. We wanted to change that.
For school, my class and I got to make a half-hour live show about the April strikes, which was called "Staak! de Show". Together with interesting guests, we discussed how the strike came about, how it ended and also what is still happening today - 80 years later - to remember the strike.
For 8 weeks we worked towards this live show. Looking for guests, filling out the program and most of all a lot of rehearsing. And all that rehearsing was not without success. We finished this assignment with a 10!
